An early Christmas present yesterday, two long awaited BigY results, one rather anxiously as we hoped that there was enough sample.
The impacted branches and surname projects are in the Recent changes list, mainly being the families of James SINTON of Abbotrule / Southdean, Roxburghshire (a second BigY result to refine his branch of the yDNA tree - see the SintonDNA project diary for specific links/info), and Joseph ROWE of Bere Ferrers, Devon (our first result for this branch, another to come).
As a result, the DNASurnames Haplogroup section has been republished, but not, as yet, the Lineages and analysis portion.
An earlier update for another of the I1 FAIRBAIRNs is included as well, but having only just finished yFull processing not yet been further analysed.

Revised Haplogroup tree etc
Although the haplogroup trees (only R and I) on DNASurnames is a highly selective extract of branches that are of particular interest for the surnames and kits I monitor, I do try to keep it relevant - not always in a timely fashion.

- additions to most of the Surname Project pages to include a link to WikiTree for any yDNA tests recorded there for each surname, which also includes their ancestors as propagated via the WikiTree DNA "smarts" .
If you are comfortable recording that you have DNA tested on a collaborative public tree, do consider WikiTree. - a note against all the now obsolete links to WorldFamiliesNetwork project pages
- R-S7361 and it's hierarchy has had a few branches added between it and R-S691 in preparation for a new project that has been requested on FamilyTreeDNA that for R-BY3127 (BigTree link: https://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=161) which may be of interest to Henderson, McWhannell, Anderson, Alexander and several other surnames
- The Andrews tested line tracked back to 1679 West Buckland, Somerset, England has jumped down the I1 haplogroup tree from I-BY15565 (some 4000 years ago) to I-Y28228 (some 700 years ago) as there is now a BigY match - with an earliest known ancestor John Taylor, b 1795 Virginia-Indiana
- The Wight line from Bowden, Roxburghshire has been advanced down the R1b tree to R-BY31019, with no matches even back up to ZZ12_1; On Big Tree at https://www.ytree.net/DisplayTree.php?blockID=4174

Onset of results
The BigY, and companion Y111 upgrade, results from the last sale are starting to roll in, so it was time to republish DNASurnames (both Haplogroup overviews and Lineage/result sections), but expect further updates as quite a few results have yet to arrive.
I've not kept full track of which ones have changed when but know there were updates in the Fairbairn and McAdie projects - still waiting on those for the Andrews, Bain, Dawe, Rowe, Sinton (from the previous sale, as it had to be re-run) surnames.

DNASurnames - Haplogroup tree update
With a set of new BigY results in from the last sale, revisions have been made to the Haplogroup trees on DNASurnames - mainly under Fairbairn and Dawe but one or two others.
Check out the Recent changes.
Please note the trees are by no means all haplogroups, just those relevant to people of interest.
They show a position on the tree, with the profiles for the haplogroups sometimes including links to eg yFull, the BigTree, Surname projects for more info.
"Children" shown on a profile page include either more recent SNPs down that branch of the tree, or a patriarch for a tester of interest's line.
Each branch is collapsible/expandable to aid showing the relevant bits of the tree.
For ease of navigation, you can click on a chart link on the profile page, or in the little blue pedigree symbol up against the name for an overview of "ancestors" and "children".
Have you bitten the bullet and upgraded a relevant person for your surname of interest to BigY?
The sale price until the end of December is $100 off, but FTDNA have thrown in an upgrade to yDNA111 from whatever yDNA markers you already have.
Coupon codes are available each week that may sometimes be valid for BigY in addition to this.
I may have some available for suitable candidates in the projects I admin, or am interested in.

Assorted DNASurnames updates
Several updates have occurred to the DNASurnames Haplogroup tree that shows key branches, the patriarch, and optionally, the tester, for surnames/lineages of interest to assorted projects, sometimes sub-projects of much larger ones.
The haplogroup R tree now includes in particular:
- BigY driven changes around R-S7361, including the new branch created for my Henderson family
- ditto around R-ZZ7_1 (well R-Y16467*) for the Richardsons of Morebattle subset of the Richardson-2 project
- a place holder at R-M269 for the Dawe family of Lamerton, Devon while we await BigY test results for the line
On the lineages side, the RICHARDSON pages in particular have had a revamp to include a theoretical DNA signature chart linking up the 4 yDNA STR matching lines to their parent terminal SNPs to see what the derived ySTR signature for the progenitor would be.

Haplogroup R1 tree
Chromo 2 results received for a descendant of Archibald HENDERSON have allowed a few more branches to be added to the Haplogroup R1 tree (which is by no means complete, only showing those on the site who have agreed for the DNA results to be shown, and is using a mix of old and new terminology for the branches).
Many thanks to those on the FamilyTree DNA R-L21 project who analyse such things to help us place our ancestors on the overall trees.
So far we know that there is at least one other person on the same branch (terminal SNP concerned is S7361).
Even though this branch of the Y-tree is still (presumably) well back from genealogical timeframes it would be good to hear from others down the same branch of L1335 > L1065>S744>S691>S7361 to compare notes on our respective ancestry.

T2e
The maternal haplogroup chart has been updated to include a branch for T2e - mainly because my own 2*great grandmother (Amelia MILLAR)'s direct maternal descendant's full results have arrived.
A quick web search indicates that this is unlikely to help me break through that particular brick wall in a hurry.

More tidy up
The DNA Surnames site tidy up continues.
This time the Haplogroup side of the site had some overdue attention.
The menu structure has changed slightly in that there are now submenus for the project and haplogroup menus.
The main content change was to expand the haplogroup trees to (sometimes) include the known Patriarch (Y-DNA) or Matriarch (mtDNA) as well as the testee, and to give some haplogroups a separate tree of their own (I and R).
Also a probably vain attempt at getting some of the haplogroup names up to current terminology, using the ISOGG trees as the 'master', and referring to them using their terminal SNP name (eg L21) rather than their branch name (eg R1b1a2a1a1b4).
A few more notes have been included against one or two of the haplogroups, particularly where the names have changed over the years, eg L21 which 23andme still call R1b1b2a1a2f.
It is unlikely that this tree will ever be completely up to date which such changes, but the branching should give an indication of who shares which branch.
Those listed are only those who belong to projects shown in the Lineages section of the site.
Please report any broken links using the contact details in the footer of most pages, some are bound to have escaped notice.

Some background renumbering may mean bookmarks need re-saving.
On the mitochondrial haplogroup tree of womankind a few of the earliest known ancestors for dna participants have been included as well as the previously included participants.
As noted previously, not all of the haplogroup names have necessarily been checked to see if they are their current names.

Site update
DNA Surnames has been updated.
The main visible changes will be to the Y-DNA haplogroup tree where some participants have been undergoing SNP testing and thus are advancing down assorted branches.
Background tidy-ups include some more of the person/page renumbering for easier maintenance, so some bookmarked links may no longer work. These will mainly be in the FAIRBAIRN and their ELLIOT(T) subgroup.
As always, check individual project diaries for surname specific changes.
